The Weekly: 9/25/25 Guide to Downtown Providence

In Providence, there’s always something interesting going on! And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

RESCHEDULED: *LAST* MOVIES ON THE BLOCK ON OCTOBER 2

Due to the rainy forecast on Thursday, Sept. 25, we’re moving our final Movies on the Block screening—we’ll be watching The Wizard of Oz—to next week on Thursday, Oct. 2. Join us for this free outdoor film screening at Grant’s Block Park in downtown Providence, RI.

This classic 1930’s film will take us from Kansas to the mystical land of Oz. The show starts between sunset and dusk (so think after 6 pm!) and seating at Movies on the Block is not provided so bring a beach chair or picnic blanket and show up early to save your spot. (Psssst Grant’s Block was at full capacity well before the movie started last time, with folks even showing up over two hours ahead of time to setup)!

Some quick notes: please do bring a picnic dinner, or purchase food to-go from the surrounding small businesses. Although we love Dorothy’s faithful friend Toto, please do not bring your pets. See you on Thursday, Oct. 2, friends!

SILENT BOOK CLUB IN DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE

We love when we see a collaboration between some of our go-to small businesses in downtown Providence, RI! And this week, it’s Symposium Books and Ellie’s hosting their next Silent Book Club event together on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 4-6 p.m.

What’s a Silent Book Club? If you’ve ever wanted to read and relax with your current book in the company of other readers, then this club is for you. Simply pack your latest tome in your tote bag and head to Ellie’s on Westminster Street to read with a glass of wine or a little treat (we love their baked goods and dinner options).

LITTLE FRIEND POP-UP AT THIS DOWNTOWN COCKTAIL BAR

Clementine Cocktail Bar on Washington Street is known for their imaginative cocktails and light bites. And each month, they invite local chefs to share the kitchen at Clementine for one night. So on Tuesday, Sept. 30, head to Clementine for this month’s Chef Night as they host Little Friend chefs Andrew McQuesten and Stephen Sternkopf. (Pssst they’re both former chefs of Downtown’s now-closed north.)

Reservations are available for $80 per person for both 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. seatings. The three course meal will include Shrimp and Corn Fritters, Alkaline Noodles with Tomato and Pepper Dashi and Grilled Fish, and more.
