In Providence, there’s always something interesting going on! And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

SAVE THE DATES: MOVIES ON THE BLOCK SUMMER SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

We know you’ve all been waiting and wondering… So we’re here to answer your most burning question: yes, Movies on the Block is returning to downtown Providence! Save the dates now and join us at the newly renovated Grant’s Block one Thursday a month, June through September 2025, for this free outdoor film screening series.

The films are: “Waiting for Guffman” on June 26; “Mermaids” on July 24; “Clue” on Aug. 28; and “The Wizard of Oz” on Sept. 26. The event starts at dusk (so make sure to check back on the Movies on the Block page for updates each month). We do ask that you bring a blanket or beach chairs since seating will not be provided. We cannot wait to share more details about the special to-go concession offered by the surrounding restaurants and shops!


SPRING MENU ITEMS NOW AVAILABLE AT DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE CAFES

We’ll be the first to say that having a little treat can fix an awful lot of our problems… And trying new seasonal treats? Even better! The cafes in downtown Providence, RI have all rolled out some delightful spring menus and we have recommendations on what to try.

For a little taste test, we’re talking about Gluten-Free Almond Rhubarb Cake from Little City Coffee & Kitchen; Iced Blueberry Matcha Lattes from Small Point Cafe; Blueberry Basil Lemonade at Bolt Coffee; Tahini Rhubarb Macarons from Ellie’s; and so much more.


SHOP LOCAL FOR MOTHER’S DAY CARDS AND GIFTS AT CRAFTLAND

Whenever we’re looking for unique, locally crafted cards and handmade items made in Rhode Island for any occasion, Craftland in downtown Providence is one of our go-to shops. If you’d like to shop local and support artists this season, then head to Craftland on Westminster Street and check out their cards and gifts for Mother’s Day (it’s coming up soon on May 11)!

For starters, check out this delicious scented “Momma Bar” soap! And we know that Mother’s Day can be a tough holiday for so many, so we especially like that Craftland carries all sorts of alternative options, from Dog Mom mugs to cards for chosen family (available in-store).
