We hope you’re hungry, PVD, because a new restaurant is now open in the downtown neighborhood!

We—along with Cornish Associates—are delighted to announce that a delicious new Thai restaurant, Phed Phed, has opened at 71 Washington Street in downtown Providence, RI. This is the latest concept from the team that owns and operates Providence’s Wara Wara, Tori Tomo, and White Owl, along with East Providence’s KhaoSan Thai Street Food. (This is extra great news for those of us who cannot get enough of the ramen at Tori Tomo but are looking to switch it up.)

Phed Phed owners Chef X and Kazu Kondo have been operating restaurants together since 2008, with Nick Mazonowicz also a partner at Phed Phed and Wara Wara. Chef X, originally from Thailand, brings authentic Thai flavors and techniques to the forefront of the restaurant with Chef Nancy and Chef Bass from KhaoSan joining the kitchen.

When we realized the space next door to Tori Tomo was available, we started thinking about the possibilities. We loved the large bar, what it could add to Tori Tomo, and we connected with this  idea of joining a new Thai restaurant with the existing Tori Tomo space and introducing a shared bar.

This new spot is connected to the existing Tori Tomo restaurant space—directly next door—with newly opened passages between the two restaurants. Tori Tomo and Phed Phed also share cocktail and food menus and are open during the same business hours. Guests are able to order off a double-sided menu that features full offerings from both Tori Tomo and Phed Phed.

While Tori Tomo is known for Japanese cuisine such as ramen, donburi, and sandwiches, Phed Phed features Thai dishes including Tom Kra Zaap Chicken, Crispy Papaya Salad, and Jeaw Steak. There are gluten-free and allergy-friendly food options as well. And although the restaurant’s name translates from Thai to “spicy” in English, dishes are available in a range of spice levels.

The cocktail menu has new signature cocktails and mocktails in addition to a selection of sake, beer, non-alcoholic beer, and wine. (We tried “The Flying Dragon” cocktail and it was cute, silky, and sweet!)

Phed Phed and Tori Tomo’s business hours are Thursday through Tuesday from 11:45 am to 9 pm; both are closed on Wednesday. Throwing a party? Event rentals, as well as reservations for all party sizes, can be made via phone. For updates on Phed Phed, check out their website and follow @indowncitypvd on Instagram.
