The Weekly: 8/21/25 Guide to Downtown Providence

In Providence, there’s always something interesting going on! And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

ELLIE’S ANNOUNCES NEW HOURS AND LIVE MUSIC SCHEDULE

We often are asked where people can find live music in the city, and today we have a new recommendation: Ellie’s, the beloved Parisian-inspired downtown Providence cafe, now has live music Thursday through Saturday each week. The music starts at 7 p.m. and the schedule can be found here.

In addition to that, Ellie’s is also now open all day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with offerings from their “All Day” menu. That means the usual dishes and beverages are available to order at any point in the day. Want to have a splash—or two—of wine at lunch? By all means!

CLEMENTINE COCKTAIL BAR HOSTS HUNGARIAN CUISINE THEMED CHEF NIGHT

Clementine Cocktail Bar is a colorful, intimate spot on Washington Street and they’ve been shaking up all sorts of delicious drinks ever since they opened in 2022. And this upcoming week, they have something special on the menu: a Hungarian Dinner! On Wednesday, Aug. 27 make a reservation for either a 6 p.m. or an 8 p.m. seating.

This three-course meal will feature Hungarian staples, such as Beef Gulyás, Hortobágyi Palacsinta, Dobos Torte, and more. Make sure to reserve your seat right here; this special chef night is $80 per person.

TWO LOCALLY-MADE TEES WE’RE WEARING UNTIL SUMMER ENDS

We don’t know about you, but we are clinging to summer until the very last moment… We’re spending time outside, making chilled cocktails, and enjoying time at the beach. And so we’re taking advantage of the limited time when we can wear some very Rhode Island summer tees!

Two that are in our rotation right now are Maisonwares’ RI Beach Umbrella tee and Bit and Little Bit’s 3% Bigger at Low Tide tee. We adore the beach theme. Plus both are locally designed and printed in Providence, and available at one of our go-to downtown Providence independent shops, Craftland.

NEXT WEEK: “CLUE” SHOWS AT 8/28 MOVIES ON THE BLOCK SCREENING

We can’t believe how we’re flying through summer! We’ve so enjoyed our last two Movies on the Block showings in June and July. So don’t miss it: the next screening is next week on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025 with the film “Clue.” Join us for this free outdoor film screening at Grant’s Block Park in downtown Providence, RI.

This cult classic 80’s film—a comedic whodunit with a memorable cast of characters—will show after sunset. Seating at Movies on the Block is not provided so bring a beach chair or picnic blanket and show up early to save your spot (psssst Grant’s Block was at full capacity well before the movie started last time, with folks even showing up over two hours ahead of time to setup)!

Some quick notes: please do bring a picnic dinner, or purchase food to-go from the surrounding small businesses. Please do not bring your pets or any alcoholic beverages. And if you can’t make this film screening, not to worry- our final Movies on the Block event will be “The Wizard of Oz” on Thursday, Sept. 25.
