MOVIES ON THE BLOCK RETURNS TO PROVIDENCE TONIGHT 6/26

Tonight is the night: for the first time since the summer of 2019, "Movies on the Block" is back, folks! We here at InDowncity are beyond excited to bring back our popular outdoor film screening series on the night of Thursday, June 26.

HERE'S WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Movies on the Block will take place at Grant’s Block in downtown Providence, RI

  • The first film screening will be "Waiting for Guffman,” kicking off at dusk

  • Moviegoers are encouraged to bring a blanket or beach chair as seating will not be provided; seating is limited and first come, first served

  • As a special part of the program, we're working with some of your favorite downtown restaurants to offer curated, limited-time-only to-go food concessions, such as pizza strips from Oberlin and cheese plates from Amaryllis (full concessions here)

  • Movies on the Block is a free film series sponsored by InDowncity, the downtown small business community, and Cornish Associates

THE MALTED BARLEY HOSTS ALLAGASH BREWING TAP TAKEOVER

The Malted Barley is a classic spot in downtown Providence for frothy beer flights and hot, flavorful housemade pretzels. But did you know they also have a rotating lineup of pop-ups from beloved local breweries?

And The Malted Barley is hosting Allagash Brewing Company for a tap takeover on Friday, June 27 from 6-8 pm. Head to the bar at 334 Westminster Street to eat, drink, check out free samples, receive a variety of branded swag, and meet a rep who will be on site.

7 SPOTS TO GRAB AN ICE COLD DRINK IN DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE

We don’t know about you, but we just barely made it through that last heat wave in Providence… One thing that made it all so much more bearable—and delicious—was the plethora of cold beverages we were sipping! Here’s the downtown Providences cafes and shops where we recommend finding something refreshing…

For cafes, we’re still thinking about Small Point Cafe’s Iced Blueberry Matcha, the Iced Black Sesame Latte from Bolt Coffee (it’s so silky), Little City Coffee & Kitchen’s Iced Latte with Rhubarb and Orange Blossom syrup, and the Mint Limeade at Ellie’s (so fresh).

In a bit more of a hurry? Serendipity Gourmet has a very impressive refrigerator section that is simply overflowing with chilled drink options. Kombucha! Juices! Coconut Water! And so much more. And Symposium Books and Queen of Hearts and Modern Love have fridges full of seltzers, sodas, kombuchas, and more, so you can shop and sip at the same time.
