The Weekly: 5/22/25 Guide to Downtown Providence

In Providence, there’s always something interesting going on! And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

A BEER TAP TAKEOVER AT THE MALTED BARLEY

The Malted Barley in downtown Providence always has an impressive variety of beers on tap, but we’re especially excited for this season’s lineup of tap takeovers. On Friday, May 23 from 6-8 p.m., head to 334 Westminster Street for Lord Hobo’s Tap Takeover. There will be free samples, branded swag, reps from the brewery, and more.

Hungry? Make sure to order some of the Malted Barley’s housemade pretzels. We recently tried the May specials: the “Elote Pretzel” (it’s stuffed with corn and has a delightful drizzle of cream and lime crema, cotija cheese, and chile garlic paprika); and the “Lemon Square Stuffed Pretzel” (it pairs well with the cream cheese frosting).

A SEAFOOD KIT PERFECT FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Memorial Day Weekend is almost here and we can already smell the ocean, feel the heat from the grill working overtime, and hear the chatter of folks who can’t wait for summer to begin. If you’re considering trying your hand at steaming lobsters and cracking open oysters, then we have something that’ll come in handy: an Essentials Seafood Tools Box from Homestyle.

This kit comes with stainless steel seafood utensils, an oyster knife, and a shell cracker. And Homestyle—a colorful shop on Westminster Street—always has a fun variety of oceanic and nautical home decor and kitchen items, including this marble and wood whale-shaped serving board and an entertaining gurgling fish pitcher (iykyk).

ROOFTOP WINE TASTING WITH ENO FINE WINES

Mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss it: Eno Fine Wines is hosting a downtown Providence rooftop wine tasting on Thursday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 (they can be purchased right here) and the experience includes a taste of “over a dozen exclusive wines from all over the world” and bites from Eno’s neighboring restaurant, Amaryllis.

These tastings always provide an excellent opportunity to learn more about specific wines while also conducting a taste test on the beautiful Peerless Building rooftop. Unable to make it? Eno Fine Wines is located at 225 Westminster Street and always stocks a gorgeous variety of wines, beers, spirits, and more.
