Somehow, May has arrived in Providence and this Sunday, May 11 is Mother’s Day.

Whether you’re celebrating your Mom, Grandma, or another mother figure in your life, this is a great occasion to enjoy a meal together. (And for all those who find Mother’s Day to be a tough or complicated day, we are sending you all the love.) If you haven’t already made reservations, here’s some ideas of restaurants in downtown Providence, RI that we recommend reaching out to inquire about availability… Or, if you dare, you can always try testing your luck and walking in!

BRUNCH AND LUNCH

Sometimes hunger waits for no one, so why not start Mother’s Day strong with a special brunch or lunch? We’re lucky to have a variety of tantalizing options in downtown Providence:

  • Cielito Mexican Kitchen on Union Street serves up fresh tacos, corundas, and more (and they recently started taking reservations via phone at 401-563-7026)

  • Ellie’s on Westminster Street is known for their coffee and pastries, but they also have excellent lunch and brunch options each day

  • Sushi, noodle dishes, and more await you for both lunch and dinner at Sura on Westminster

  • Oberlin, on Westminster Street, has taken the Providence brunch scene by storm; we believe that their brunch reservations are all taken, but perhaps luck will be on your side when it comes to walking in

DINNER IDEAS

Perhaps you prefer a later meal, or you’re unable to wrangle the family at an earlier time. Either way, we have quite a few ideas for spots to bring your mother figure for dinner in downtown Providence:

  • Amaryllis is a cozy farm-to-table spot open at 5 p.m.

  • Interested in Neapolitan-style pizza? Figidini on Washington is the way to go

  • For those who love slurping oysters, devouring fresh crudo, or trying dishes with a South Korean flair, Gift Horse on Westminster is a must

  • Gracie’s on Washington is a local favorite when it comes to fine dining and curated wine pairings

  • Rosalina on Aborn Street is our go-to for classic Italian dishes (like their mouthwatering meatballs) in Providence

  • Suya Joint is the newest kid on the block (aka Westminster Street) and this West African restaurant is a tasty addition to downtown

  • Long before they took on brunch, the team at Oberlin made a name for themselves with their delicious pastas, breads, salads, and more

CASUAL FARE

Looking for a more casual experience? If you want to keep it chill and focus more on the company and the food than getting all gussied up, then we have plenty of ideas (and each of the following spots are open for both lunch and dinner):

  • On Washington Street, Tori Tomo’s ramen always hits the spot

  • Durk’s Bar-B-Q on Aborn Street has all the smoked meat on the menu (and flavorful whiskey cocktails)

  • For great beer and pub fare, check out Trinity Brewhouse on Fountain

  • Housemade pretzels abound—and they can be made gluten-free—and beer flights flow at The Malted Barley on Westminster Street

We hope you eat something delicious and have a wonderful weekend, PVD!
