The Weekly: 3/5/26 Guide to Downtown Providence

Here’s the gist: in Providence, there’s always something interesting going on. And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

NEW RESTAURANT MEMERE’S NOW OPEN IN THE NEPTUNE HOTEL

Did you hear? There’s a new dining experience within the Neptune—formerly The Dean Hotel—in downtown Providence, RI! Help us welcome Mémère’s, a French-Canadian inspired restaurant (pssst it’s where north used to be). This brand new bistro is brought to Providence by Michael and Regina Lester, the duo behind the now shuttered but beloved The Dorrance.

The restaurant is heavily inspired by Lester’s own grandmother, and the decor and menu reflect both French and Quebec touches. Mémère’s offers classic French dishes such as foie gras and tartare de boeuf, to name a few, along with a full cocktail menu. We especially loved the Rillettes de Saumon Fume and Creme Brulee when we visited! It’s open Wednesday through Saturday from 5-10 pm. Reservations can be made here.

FREE PRETZELS, ANYONE: THE MALTED BARLEY CELEBRATES 10 YEARS THIS WEEKEND

We cannot believe it, but The Malted Barley just hit its TEN year anniversary! Many congratulations to our favorite Providence spot for pretzels and beers. From pretzel sandwiches (the Caprese is a go-to), to an impressive array of beers, to pretzel desserts, The Malted Barley has options for everyone- especially if you have a gluten-allergy. In honor of the anniversary, folks are invited to head to the restaurant for Free Pretzel Day on Saturday, March 7.

PLUS, MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Lil Rhody Laugh Riot is coming soon to The Malted Barley! The Malted Barley will host two special Comedy Trivia nights on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 from 1-3 pm. Each night will feature all things comedy trivia with stand-up performances between rounds. We’re excited for this Rhode Island comedy festival to return for a second year from March 26-29, with shows booked across the state (including the Providence Performing Arts Center and The Vets).

THE FOUR COZIEST CAFES (IN OUR HUMBLE OPINION) IN DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE

So, just for all of you, we’ve rounded up four of the coziest cafes in downtown Providence that we simply adore over at @indowncitypvd on Instagram.

From the window seats at Little City, to the Parisian-style elegance of Ellie’s, we can count on a frothy latte, breakfast sandwich, or expertly crafted pastry to transform our day at these four coffee shops in the neighborhood.
