Spring 2024 Outdoor Dining in Downtown Providence

Spring is officially here, and it’s time to plan accordingly when going out to eat. The warmer months are the perfect time to relaxedly sip in the sunshine, or (if you’re anything like me) a great time to keep an eye out for any city pups out for a stroll. Interested to know which restaurants and cafes in Downtown Providence offer outdoor seating? We have the InDowncity guide for you! (And we’ll update as outdoor seating pops up throughout the season.)

Please note that outdoor dining is weather dependent; we always recommend making a reservation to ensure the seating you desire is available. Thank you for supporting small businesses in Rhode Island!

LITTLE CITY COFFEE & KITCHEN

One thing to know about Providence: there is no shortage of excellent coffee shops! Little City Coffee & Kitchen on Mathewson Street is a delightful destination for uniquely flavored lattes and sweet pastries. Pick up a breakfast sandwich—featuring housemade English muffins—and sit outside in the morning light!

BOLT COFFEE CO

As one of two locations in the city, Bolt Coffee Co on Washington Street consistently boasts delicious coffee roasts and both breakfast and lunch options (the rice bowl is fantastic, in our opinion). There is nothing quite like taking our morning coffee outdoors right on the hustling and bustling Washington Street.

SMALL POINT CAFE

From sandwiches, to bowls, to many flavored lattes, there’s something for everyone at Small Point Cafe (including a wide variety of delicious gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options). Sit outside and enjoy a gorgeous view of the Superman Building!

DURK’S BAR-B-Q

Durk’s Bar-B-Q on Aborn Street is home to an impressive whiskey wall, incomparable smoked meats, and unforgettable sides (we’re partial to the pierogis and mac and cheese). Find us there on the next sunny day, seated on the sidewalk and enjoying the breeze.

OBERLIN

For a variety of raw bar items, house-made pasta dishes, whole grilled fish, and fresh, local vegetables—plus brunch on the weekend—look no further than Oberlin on Westminster Street (pssst they moved across the street last October). The restaurant now has a gorgeous and expansive patio space and an outdoor bar, right on Grant’s Block! And it’s all heated and covered, no matter the weather.

THE MALTED BARLEY

Order a flavorful flight of beers and a tray of pretzels while seated on the spacious sidewalk at The Malted Barley! With 16 seats available, this is one of our go-to spots for casual, fun outdoor dining on Westminster Street itself. (Plus, the shade from umbrellas provides fantastic coverage for all weather.)

AMARYLLIS

Find Amaryllis tucked right in between Eno Fine Wines and Mokban Korean Bistro on Westminster Street. When the weather permits, take a seat outdoors while enjoying unforgettable salads, seafoods, pastas, and more dishes made with farm-to-table ingredients.

THE EDDY

We’ve enjoyed many a drink at The Eddy on—wait for it—Eddy Street, and this year will be no different! Known for their fresh, inventive cocktails and bites available from open to close (that means until 1 a.m on Sunday-Thursday, and 2 am on Friday-Saturday). Check out their tables and standing bar area located in the alley next to the bar.

CLEMENTINE COCKTAIL BAR

Craving zesty, unique cocktails? Clementine Cocktail Bar is one of our go-to cocktail bars in the downtown Providence neighborhood. Located on Washington Street, the bar now has eight outdoor seats lined up on the sidewalk. (And seating includes heaters and umbrellas, so it’s a great option in most weather.)

COMING JUNE 1: GRACIE’S

Are you looking for a five or seven course meal? Perhaps with wine pairings for each course? Gracie’s on Aborn Street offers just the thing. For those looking for something a little more casual, enjoy Gracie’s outdoor dining—beginning June 1—in Providence while perusing the cocktail and a la carte menus.
