In 2022, Lovely Bride Providence opened their bridal shop at 65 Eddy Street. Since the shop opened, countless prospective brides have found gowns to wear on their special day, all thanks to the meticulous care of the stylists (and the gorgeous catalog).

If you have walked around downtown Providence on any given weekend—especially spring through fall—odds are you’ve witnessed a recently wedded couple posing for photographs at an intersection, or caught sight of a bridal party waiting eagerly to enter their venue. With hotels, churches, restaurants, and many other fantastic locations for ceremonies and receptions, it’s no wonder that adding a bridal shop to the downtown scene makes perfect sense.

As we enter wedding season once again, we want to share four pieces of advice straight from Lovely Bride Providence owner Katie Wadhams. If you are a prospective bride in the area, read on (and book an appointment right here)!

1. START EARLY

When wedding planning, time is of the absolute essence. “Wedding gowns can take anywhere from twelve weeks to six months to come in,” says Wadhams. “By a year out, you should be looking at the options and by nine months, you want to be ready to select ‘the one.’”

We recommend getting started by booking a private appointment at Lovely Bride Providence. After selecting a time and the dresses you’re interested in, you’ll then be paired with a dedicated stylist for your appointment. Then the magic can begin!

 2. EDUCATE YOURSELF AHEAD OF TIME

While some folks have been thinking about what they’ll wear to their wedding for a very long time, some might have no clue where to begin. Before heading to your appointment at Lovely Bride, make sure you know what to look for and what everything costs. This can be done by viewing the “Providence Bridal Designers” section on Lovely Bride’s website.

According to Wadhams, it’s important to “do your homework before your appointments- know what designers a boutique carries, their price points, and have some photos of gowns you love. “

3. KEEP AN OPEN MIND

The great thing about going dress shopping in-person is that there is likely a variety of looks that you may not have considered before. Instead of limiting yourself to cuts and fabrics that you‘ve worn before, Wadhams suggests that prospective brides keep an open mind and try on dresses in a variety of different silhouettes and styles in order to figure out what works for you.

 4. MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY

And, of course, during a time when there may be many voices clamoring about what to do and what not to do for the wedding, it’s important not to forget something key: make yourself happy! “This day is really supposed to be about you and your partner,” says Wadhams, “so don’t lose that in the process.  What brings you joy and makes you smile is what you should go with.  There aren’t any rules.”

If you’re planning a wedding in the near future, we wish you all the best and hope that your day is everything you dream!
