Grant’s Block Park Officially Open for the Season

The new 1,200 square foot dog park designed by Ryan Associates and built by Landscape Creations

Drumroll please… The long anticipated day has arrived: Grant’s Block Park is now open in downtown Providence, RI!

As of May 2024, the park—located by the intersection of Westminster Street and Union Street—is completed and open to the public. If you’ve been to downtown Providence in the past 15 years, chances are you’ve been to Grant’s Block park for outdoor activities, be it the beloved Movies on the Block (RIP- we miss it too); one of the Providence Rock and Roll Yard Sales; Celebrate Downcity holiday festivities; a casual lunch; Long Live Beer Garden; or any number of other fun programs organized by InDowncity and Cornish Associates.

Now, Grant’s Block is more than simply an event space. Thanks to the work of Cornish Associates in partnership with Ryan Associates and Union Studio Architects for the design, and Landscape Creations for the build, the park has been completely revamped and improved. The new design includes the following:

  • A 1,200 square foot dog park, open everyday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • New custom cedar seating surrounding the perimeter of the park (don’t know about you, but we’re always looking for somewhere to sit while feasting on takeout during our lunch break)

  • Beautiful landscaping, featuring 9 new trees and a variety of perennial plants and shrubs

  • Overhead lighting

We highly suggest checking out Grant’s Block by meeting up with friends, grabbing lunch alfresco on the next sunny day, or heading to an InDowncity event (such as the 2024 InDowncity x Providence Rock and Roll Yard Sale on Saturday, May 4).
